About Me: Deja Monee

I'm Deja Monee, a Public Relations (PR) Specialist. I’m also known as a publicist, PR Girl, and my personal favorite, “the plug”. I hate to burst your bubble, but PR is not what you've seen on TV. No shade to Samantha from Sex & the City or Olivia Pope from Scandal, but PR is not glamorous. There are some cool perks, but brand livelihoods and reputations are at stake.

As a way to sum up the site, it is all about helping you become the media magnet you were destined to be. If you’re a business owner looking to step up your PR game, you've come to the right place.

I got my start in the communications industry as a journalist, but transitioned into the PR industry after taking on an internship at a PR firm in college. My foundation in journalism has given me a great advantage because I am able to leverage my previous relationships in journalism to maximize exposure for my clients. Since I've been on the other side, I know first hand what peaks the media's interest.

Over the past few years, I've represented clients in various industries including beauty, fashion, entertainment, alcohol, and technology. I've secured media placements in The Examiner, Madame Noire, Philly.com, The Daily News, Kontrol Magazine, Fast Company, Buzzfeed and more.

I earned a B.A. in Mass Media Arts from Clark Atlanta University and a M.A. in Professional Business Communication from La Salle University.

When I’m not working with clients, mentoring young professionals, or writing, you can catch me brunching, exploring NYC, and searching for the perfect matte lipstick.

Testimonials

Deja, It’s been such a pleasure working with you — thank you so much for helping us get the word out about the tour.

In Tallahassee, a student mentioned she saw us on Community Chat, and another attendee heard about the event on the radio. This was the first time we’ve hosted events outside of the tri-state area, so the media coverage you secured really helped break us into the southeast region of the country.

Ariel and I look forward to working with you in the future. This is just the beginning!
